Histopathological grading systems analysis of oral squamous cell carcinomas of young patients

2016

Background: To analyze the clinicopathological profile of young patients (≤ 40 years) with oral SCC and correlate with a control group (≥ 50 years) by means of histopathological grading systems. Material and Methods: 14 young patients and 14 control patients were selected with similar clinical stage and tumor location. Demographic and clinical data were obtained from patient records and histological sections were evaluated according to four histopathological grading systems. Associations between categories of demographic and clinical data were performed through Chi-square test and Exact Fisher test. The survival analyzes were performed according to the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The comp…

First guidelines for unilateral cT1 renal tumor management

2010

Current treatment options for clinical stage T1 renal tumors, in patients with a contralateral healthy kidney, are diverse. The first guidelines for the management of these lesions have recently been published, which state that tumor size and health status of the patient are important factors to consider. The inclusion of tumor location, patient age and major comorbidities might strengthen these guidelines in the future.

Clear Cell Changes in Salivary Gland Neoplasms: A 20-Year Retrospective Study

2017

Background Clear cells are observed histopathologically in both benign and malignant neoplasms but their presence in salivary gland tumors has not been extensively documented. Material and Methods With IRB approval, the archive of the University of Florida College of Dentistry oral pathology biopsy service was retrospectively searched from 1994-2014 for all benign and malignant salivary tumors. Epidemiological data, tumor location and duration, and type of tumor were recorded. A four reviewer panel examined the original slides. Reviewers scaled each case as 0 (no clear cells present), 1 (few to focal clear cells), 2 (less than 50% clear cells), and 3 (greater than 50% clear cells). Results …

Lymph node evaluation for resected colorectal cancer

2013

SUMMARY The negative impact of regional lymph node metastasis on survival from nonmetastatic colorectal cancers is proportional to the number of nodes harvested. A thorough lymph node examination by the pathologist is essential for accurate staging. Recommendations in the USA and Europe stipulate that a minimum of 12–15 lymph nodes must be examined to accurately predict regional node negativity. The prognostic separation for stage III colorectal cancer obtained by the lymph node ratio is superior to that of the absolute number of positive nodes. The extent of mesenteric resection, pathologic technique, age or tumor location may influence lymph node yield. In the future, biological signific…

Treatment of clinically localized renal tumors in the elderly

2011

There are several options for treating clinically localized renal tumors in the elderly, ranging from active surveillance to radical nephrectomy. Reduced renal function is associated with increased cardiovascular mortality, so maintaining renal function is of the utmost importance. Personalized therapy should be based on tumor location, comorbidities and general health status rather than tumor size and patient age.

Transpupillare Thermotherapie (TTT) zur Behandlung von Aderhautmetastasen

2001
